Visual storytelling rooted in the wonder and wisdom of the wild — the birds, beasts, and landscapes of a New Mexico childhood, in clay and watercolor.

Sculpture modeled in clay, often gathering antiques and objects from the bosque — wings pressed from cottonwood leaves, a branch from the forest floor — into pieces where realism turns gently toward fable.

Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and raised in the picturesque North Valley, Cathe Bloomfield Collard has long drawn inspiration from the natural world around her, especially the magic of the bosque. As a child, she spent her days climbing cottonwoods and exploring irrigation ditches with her pet raccoon, Davie. This early connection to nature has profoundly influenced her artwork, which pays homage to the creatures that share her surroundings. She has never met an American kestrel, Woodhouse’s toad, or tiger salamander she didn’t love.
Cathe’s artistic journey began as a sculptor. At Adobe Forge and Foundry, she honed her skills while casting her own bronze pieces alongside those of other artists. She earned a Master of Education degree from the University of New Mexico and devoted 23 years to nurturing young artists at Cibola High School, where she taught sculpture, ceramics, and Art I. Her classroom became a haven where creativity, self-expression, and inclusion flourished.
Following her retirement from teaching, Cathe discovered a new passion for watercolor through classes with New Mexico artist Carol Carpenter. Her work has been featured at venues throughout New Mexico, including the New Mexico Arts and Crafts Fair, MasterWorks of New Mexico, the New Mexico State Fair, ABQ Gallery, and Open Space Visitor Center.
Among her notable artistic projects is the creation of a Coelophysis dinosaur skeleton for the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science. A proud mother of two adult children, Cathe has shared her deep appreciation for the natural world with them and hopes that through her work, she continues to widen the circle of inspiration.

Sculpture and watercolor in praise of the wild — birds, animals, and the landscapes that hold them, rendered with equal parts realism and gentle fancy. Look for a kingfisher with a compass, a falcon in spectacles, and wings shaped from real cottonwood leaves, pressed and painted. At its heart is a quiet idea: we protect what we love.
A collaborative exhibition with New Mexico artists Shelley Miller and Leigh Walters.
